Project 7 Part 4: Recommended E-Commerce Approach

Recommended E-Commerce Approach

For a potential client who is deciding how to set up an online store, I would recommend using a separate-site e-commerce platform like Shopify. A WordPress-embedded store can work well, but I think a separate e-commerce platform is the easier and more practical choice for a client who wants to have their primary focus on selling products instead of managing website technology.

First, Shopify is built specifically for e-commerce. The platform is designed for products, orders, checkout, payments, and shipping, so the main store tools are already included.

Second, hosting and store infrastructure are handled by Shopify. This means the client does not have to choose separate hosting or worry as much about whether the store can handle traffic.

Third, Shopify is easier for beginners to manage. The dashboard is focused on store tasks like adding products, managing orders, setting up payments, and handling shipping.

Fourth, there is less plugin maintenance compared to a WordPress-embedded store. With WooCommerce, the site owner may need several plugins for payments, shipping, security, SEO, and design. More plugins can also mean more updates and possible conflicts.

Fifth, Shopify gives the client a more focused selling experience. Since the platform is made for online stores, it can be easier to launch and manage without needing as much technical knowledge.

All in all, I would recommend a separate-site e-commerce store for a client who wants a simpler setup and fewer technical responsibilities. WordPress with an e-commerce plugin gives more control, but Shopify is usually easier for someone who wants to get an online store running and focus on the business side.
